Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Nicole Manison officially unveiled the fire station last week.
The station rapidly took shape over the course of last year, with construction workers able to buckle down over the wet season with little rain to get in the way.
Previously housed at the over-cramped police station, across the road, firefighters now have a bright, modern state of the art facility, big enough to accommodate 40 emergency service workers.
At the official opening, officer in charge, Bernie Welsford, said the new station is a "breath of fresh air".
The new facility has boosted morale "to no end," he said, "in the past we were in a small closed away area."
"It has definitely made coming to work more of a pleasure."
Cheif Minister Michael Gunner first announced the project in 2017 to ease chronic overcrowding at the police station, but the move has also paved the way for quicker response times with all equipment stored in a centralised location.
The new space includes a training facility, gym and outdoor BBQ area, as well as a large bay to house the fire engines.
The open day for the Katherine fire station - located in the industrial area of Katherine East, right next to the ambulance station - runs from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, June 1.
