After three years of Sunday games, Katherine Junior Rugby League vice president Brett Payne said the move will likely bolster numbers in the competition.
"We are listening to calls from parents to bring back the Friday night games," he said.
The move comes as the battered number two oval at the Sportsground, where the games are played, is finally seeing some much needed attention.
Filled with holes and dried out due to broken sprinklers the number two oval has had minimal use over the past few seasons.
A council report released in January outlined concerns regarding the condition of the playing surface.
"The oval is constructed on a rocky surface with a minimum coverage of topsoil. It has no proper drainage system and the surface is undulating," the report states.
"We had a site inspection with Katherine Town Council last week to identify the problems with oval two," Mr Payne said.
Mr Payne said the council will be aerating and patching up the uneven ground this week.
Once safe, games will resume on the oval, taking pressure off number one oval, which sees up to 14 different usergroups using the field.
The first of the Friday night games kick off this week at 6pm, with U6s, U8s, U10s and U12s competing.
