The Bureau of Meteorology keeps changes its forecasts but solidly believes thunderstorms are now likely for Katherine today and after the weekend.
"Partly cloudy. Medium (60%) chance of showers during this afternoon and evening. The chance of a thunderstorm from late this morning. Light winds becoming northwesterly 15 to 20kmh in the late afternoon then tending northerly in the evening," the bureau says.
Unfortunately the forecast end of the run of 40 plus degree days - 16 days and counting - which was supposed to be today, now isn't going to happen.
After reaching 41 yesterday, the bureau is tipping Katherine will reach 40 today to keep the heatwave record going.
A much more mild 38 degrees is forecast tomorrow, and on Sunday.
The average maximum temperature for Katherine (Tindal) this month has been 40.6 degrees.
There were some showers showing up on the radar late yesterday but Daly Waters with a mighty 0.6mm was about the best, officially.
