Anzac Day services across the Territory have been cancelled, in an effort to stop the possible spread of coronavirus.
A decision was made to cancel Anzac Day Services throughout South Australia and the Northern Territory for 2020.
"In light of the current COVID19 virus and after discussion between the South Australian State Government and the Northern Territory Government and in consultation with State Board Members, it has been agreed that Anzac Day Services throughout South Australia and the Northern Territory will be cancelled for 2020."
"This decision has not been taken lightly for Katherine Town Council and the Katherine RSL Sub-Branch however, this is in the best interest and wellbeing of our ageing veterans and the community at large," a council spokeswoman said.
"Anzac Day is no less important this year. Although we won't be commemorating the fallen this ANZAC Day in an official service, we will always remember the dedication, commitment and sacrifice of our Defence Forces, past and present."
"It is in the best interest and wellbeing of our ageing veterans and the community at large," state organisers said.
