Exercise Pitch Black 2020 was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions and is set to return to the Northern Territory in 2022.
The skies above Katherine will not sound to the thunderous noise of military hardware from around the world this year.
This year, Air Force has decided to run a Pitch Black retrospective on its digital channels like Facebook and Twitter from July 27 to August 7.
Join Air Force online to explore its largest biennial exercise.
Air Force will explore the evolution of technology and people from 1981-2018, and provide a preview into what the future holds for 2022 and beyond.
Exercise Pitch Black is Air Force's capstone international engagement activity.
The exercise has evolved significantly since it first began in 1981, in terms of scope and goals, technology, and the personnel involved.
This evolution is expected to continue as the RAAF grows as a fifth generation air force.
For much of its history, Exercise Pitch Black has been conducted in the Northern Territory, with forces predominantly based at the Tindal RAAF Base, and Darwin utilising training ranges and exercise airspace in the Northern Territory.
The public is invited to check out some of their Pitch Black pictures from 2018 here.
