The only full time GP at the Rocky Ridge Aged Care Facility clinic will leave on January 15.
This will leave four doctors who work on a rotating roster.
The clinic is currently open Monday-Friday but this will change to varied opening hours when the full time GP leaves.
The NT Primary Health Network is responsible for managing the clinic.
A PHN spokesperson said the interim clinic is scheduled to close in February unless a permanent solution is still not available.
"The interim service is scheduled to operate until the end of February however this will be reviewed upon the announcement of a permanent service," the spokesperson said.
They said an announcement on a permanent fix should be coming soon.
"We're continuing to support the establishment of a new permanent service and anticipate an announcement on this in the coming weeks."
Without the interim clinic more than 8000 patients in Katherine would not have access to a GP.
The clinic was set up after the town's only private GP service Gorge Health closed in October last year.
The interim clinic reopened on Monday after a break over the Christmas and New Year period.
People can book appointments with the clinic directly via phone on 8950 4853.
