Katherine students had it all at the Airport Development Group's (ADG) Indigenous Cricket Gala Day in Katherine on June 23.
Thirty of Australia's best young cricketers, who have travelled to Darwin from across Australia to be part of NT Cricket's Cricket 365 program, spent two days in Katherine delivering cricket skills clinics and a day of competition at Katherine Sports Ground.
The event was sponsored by ADG who are committed to facilitating opportunities for Indigenous Australians though sport, education, and employment opportunities across their business.
The cricket program offered students the chance to try something new and develop skills in a sport which may not have previously been their go-to.
Over 150 primary and secondary students from schools in and around Katherine were part of the event.
"I liked playing with friends and hitting the ball off the cone, I caught two balls. The cricket guys were cool, they told me to keep my arm straight when bowling," Jon Rankine Johnson from Pine Creek said.
"I'd like to play cricket in Katherine but we don't have a team."
"I like playing cricket at home. The best thing about today was hitting the ball far to help get the other kids back in. I love batting most," Akeima Lake from Kalano community said.
ADG and NT Cricket hope to see the Indigenous Cricket Engagement Program become an annual event.
ADG's Indigenous Cricket Gala day in Darwin will be held Wednesday, August 18.
