Katherine workers will be eligible to apply for Covid-19 Disaster Payments of up to $750 a week it was announced on Sunday.
Senator for the Northern Territory Dr Sam McMahon said workers in Katherine would be able to apply from November 12 for the payments as part of Federal Government pandemic support for Territorians.
Katherine moved into lockout restrictions at 3pm on Sunday after having been in lockdown from midnight on Friday. The restrictions have been extended at this stage to 11.59pm on November 8.
"If you're in a declared hotspot area and your work or income is impacted, then you'll be eligible for payment," Dr McMahon said.
"Those eligible will receive $750 per week if they have lost 20 or more hours of work, and $450 per week if they have lost between eight and less than 20 hours of work, or the equivalent of a full day of work."
People currently on an income support payment could also claim an extra payment of $200 if they have lost eight hours or more of work, or a full day's work, and meet other eligibility requirements.
"The quickest and easiest way to claim is online," Senator McMahon said.
"Eligible Katherine employees can get ready to claim now by creating a myGov account if they don't already have one
"When claims open on Friday 12 November, you'll be able to claim financial support back to the start of the lockdown.
"The Australian Government not only wants to see people stay safe during lockdowns but also wants to ensure they're not going without, so it's providing a safety net with these payments."
