Heavy drinking in Katherine has been called out by the Territory's Chief of Police as an issue during the lockdown.

While overall behaviour in the town's compliance had been "very, very good", Commissioner Jamie Chalker said that behaviour could be better.
"We are dealing with a number of residences, unfortunately, where it does appear alcohol consumption is occurring, probably beyond the realms of what would be considered normal social interaction," Commissioner Chalker said.

"And that's obliging further demand on police resources which is not appropriate at this point in time.
"So to those community members in Katherine, please curb your behaviour.
He said that people should be mindful that "we don't need to be responding to large scale disturbances at your residence when police resources are out there trying to protect the people of the Katherine community".
Commissioner Chalker also called out a series of incidents in the Territory on Tuesday, including a woman who was kicked in the face by her partner who was wearing steel-capped boots, a homicide and serious robberies.
Resources needed to cope with the pandemic should not have to be diverted to deal with "completely unacceptable behaviour", he said.
"I urge you to pull those recalcitrant people in your lives into line so we can focus on saving lives in the Territory."
