The incentive was launched last week by Transport Minister Peter Chandler, who said it was aimed at inspiring better driving practices among young Territorians.
“Last year, 466 P-plate drivers were caught doing the wrong thing - offences ranged from drink driving to speeding over the 100km/h designated limit,” Mr Chandler said.
“We have a lot of P-plate drivers on our roads, with more than 6300 provisional licences issued in the past year alone.”
A 10-year, open C-class licence in the Territory is valued at $156, and the incentive will be available to new open licence applicants from July 1, 2015.
The initiative was accounted for in the 2015-16 Territory budget and will cost $50,000.
