The event showcased the diverse range of sports and physical activities on offer in the town, and its interactive format allowed community members to have a go before committing to a club.
“This day represents an excellent opportunity for many local community groups to provide awareness on the wide range of activities available within Katherine as well as boosting membership numbers,” a council spokeswoman said.
Hundreds of Katherine residents poured into the indoor skate rink at the YMCA to find out what was on offer.
“Due to the success of last year’s event being held indoors it has been decided to once again proceed with this format,” the council spokeswoman said.
From archery, rugby union and roller derby to air force cadets and cricket, there was something on offer for people of all ages.
The Cancer Council and dietitians from the Katherine Hospital were also present at the event to remind residents of the importance of leading healthy lives.
More than 30 clubs and societies had representatives at the expo on Saturday to provide locals and newcomers with information.
Many of Katherine’s sporting teams will be kicking off their seasons in the coming months as we transition into the dry season.
