Kintore Street School will be hosting its annual “croc race” where plastic crocodiles are released from Katherine’s “high level” town bridge and race down to the Low Level crossing.
Kintore Street School principal Marg Chamberlain said money raised will go towards installing softfall underneath the school’s playground.
“In previous years the money has bought a wheel-chair bus and a shade cloth over the playground,” Ms Chamberlain said.
More than $10,000 is raised each year as part of the fun fundraising race.
“This is our fourth year and everyone is really excited about it, it is a really fun day,” Ms Chamberlain said.
“There will be a jumping castle and a barbecue at the Low Level Park after the race.”
The first crocodile over the finish line scores $1000 and each of the next 100 each collects a prize.
Last year the pint size crocodiles were unable to enter the Katherine River because of a lurking life size saltwater reptile.
“It was a really fantastic day,” Ms Chamberlain told Katherine Times last year.
“It was a shame we couldn’t get the crocs into the river, but we can’t be complacent about croc safety.”
Each crocodile costs $10.
