But the big result from the Nitmiluk Oval action was the last gasp win by Beswick Bears over the more fancied Katherine South Crocs in the last kick of the game.
The Crocs led all day until a 50 metre goal in the final minute saw the Bears win by two points and book a place in this weekend’s preliminary final against Eastside Blues.
Final scores:
Katherine Camels 11.8 (74) d Eastside Blues 7.8 (5).
Katherine South Crocs 12.4 (76) lost to Beswick Bears 11.12 (78).
The Bears will play Eastside Blues on Saturday night’s preliminary final to win the right to take on the Camels on September 16 in the big one.
The Camels got off to a slow start against the reigning champions on Saturday night and were down by five points at half time.
A half time rev up saw the Camels restrict the Blues to three points in the premiership quarter and they cleared away with a four goal burst to finish the game well on top.
In the later match, it was all about the poor, old Crocs who made a positive return to Big Rivers competition this season after a decade-long hiatus. That one long kick, 30 seconds before the final siren, saw the season over.
