Sexual assaults have continued the recent trend and have risen to 64 per cent in the past year
All assaults, domestic violence and alcohol-related, have all risen.
Commander Matthew Hollamby said the figures still remain low when compared with past years.
“We continue to see reductions in the proportions of assaults that are associated with alcohol or domestic violence, though these factors still contribute to two-thirds of assaults in the area,” Commander Hollamby said.
He said there was a lower than average number of offences against the person being reported in July.
“Police continue to pursue domestic violence offenders and support victims with a view to preventing repeat victimisation.
“Periodic compliance operations are conducted to ensure Domestic Violence Orders are being obeyed,” he said.
House break-ins are up 76 per cent and Commander Hollamby said there was a “spike” in crime during July.
“A local operation was conducted during the school holiday period to prevent crime but was also used to target property offenders.
“Home security is a feature of policing operations and the community can help by undertaking basic security measures including to lock your doors at night or when your home or car is unattended.”
Commander Hollamby said the dry season is nearing the end and we will now enter preparations for the upcoming cyclone and flood season.
The community is urged to start preparing their basic emergency kits and consider a family cyclone or flood action plan. More information can be found at www.securent.nt.gov.au
Northern Command police encourage the community to report all suspicious activity and offending by reporting crimes to 131 444 or via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Further, police encourage the community to access the Neighbourhood Watch NT website, which provides some practical tips on how you can reduce the risk of becoming a victim.
