Research released from Woolworths reveals Territorians are the biggest celebrators of Valentine’s Day.
The data shows boxed chocolate sales shoot through the roof during the Valentine period.
Last year The Sweetest Thing sold out of all fresh flowers by 9 am on February 14.
“We sold 800 roses plus the usual fresh flowers we have in store,” owner Lana Reed said.
Chocolate and flowers are the two most popular gifts to give for Valentine’s Day, followed by champagne and jewellery.
Valentine’s Day is the second largest retail week for flower sales at Woolworths (behind Mother’s Day) with more than 90,000 flowers sold last year during the Valentine’s Day period.
Another survey released today, expects Australian shoppers to drop more than half a billion dollars tomorrow.
On average Aussies will spend $75 each, equivalent to a whopping $528 million across the nation.
But almost two thirds won’t be celebrating Valentine’s Day this year, with most saying they were avoiding the holiday because of cost.
