And everyone can get involved.
The Cox Hagger Challenge for the best patty cake is on.
Sponsored by Fay Cox and Gillian Hagger, the patty cake challenge will pit Katherine locals and visitors from afar to find the best looking and tasting patty cake.
Judges will be looking for a uniform shape and size, and quality ingredients.
Show Officer, Patricia Glackin said she had received a lot of ideas for the 2018 Katherine Show cooking challenge, but ultimately, patty cakes won by far.
“This is the type of challenge most people will be able to take part in as you can make perfect patty cakes in less than 35 minutes, so it suits even those with a very busy lifestyle,” she said.
The Katherine Show has a range of open and junior cooking classes including brownies, banana cake, biscuits and decorated patty cakes.
“Getting involved in the show cooking classes can be so much fun, over time you can gain valuable cooking skills and most importantly you are contributing to the success of your local show,” Ms Glackin said.
Competitors in the Cox Hagger Challenge will have to make six un-iced patty cakes.
First prize is $50.
Nominations close on June 24.
Full details of all classes are available on the website.
In addition to a new cooking competition, the Katherine Show has added new classes to the Equestrian Program.
