Four inmates at Darwin's Don Dale Detention Centre have been accused of trying to start a fire.

Four boys at Darwin's Don Dale youth detention facility are accused of starting several fires at the centre.

They allegedly started the fires in several outdoor areas after forcing their way into a staff-only section of the centre on Friday night, police and Territory Families say.

The group were taken to a police watch house to be interviewed and the fires were put out quickly, causing minimal damage.
