St John Ambulance paramedics from Nhulunbuy came to the aid of a four-year-old boy yesterday afternoon after the child suffered a head injury in a fall.

The boy had fallen from a tree at a height of 1.5 to 2 metres at the outstation of Garrthalala on the remote East Arnhem Land coast, a two-hour drive from Nhulunbuy on a dirt road.
With no medically-trained staff at the outstation and in a bid to provide the best urgent medical care for the young patient, St John Ambulance Emergency Medical Dispatchers liaised with East Arnhem Land’s Mission Aviation Fellowship’s local MAF air charters to send two paramedics in a light aircraft to the community to treat the boy.
In a 30-minute flight the injured child was flown from Garrthalala to Gove in the care of St John Ambulance paramedics and family members.
He arrived at Gove District Hospital yesterday afternoon in a stable condition.
