Police said he was in Katherine working.
Emergency services were on the scene of the crash for much of the day which blocked both lanes of the Stuart Highway south of Katherine.
NT Police are investigating after a male motorcyclist died at the scene after colliding with a horse.
Police said the accident happened about 5am.
A horse had to be put down.
Police are still at the scene and are directing light vehicles which the investigation into the cause of the crash continues.
Some trucks have been able to move through the accident scene although a large number of vehicles remain banked up.
The crash is located in the vicinity of the Tindal RAAF Base turnoff.
