The $7.2 million project took shape quickly and today tradies added the finishing touches. 

The tell-tale green and red signs are up and the concrete is well and truly set. 

Mitie Construction director Stephen Temple said construction works were completed today and Puma Energy is finalising last minute details for an opening this week. 

The Puma Energy service station on the corner of the Stuart Highway and Bicentennial Road, near the cultural centre, includes plans for a cafe with seating for 28 people.

Intended to operate as a pit stop for truckies on long-haul drives, there will be six toilets, a truckers lounge area with seating, laundry and showers.

“The addition of a rest stop with dining area and shower facilities along the Stuart Highway in Katherine will contribute positively to road safety in the Northern Territory and will help drives manage fatigue,” planning documents state.

WA-based Mitie Construction won the contract to build the big new station and have been working quickly this year to get the site ready. 

The company was active in the community as well, offering much needed help in renovating the Men’s Shed.

Not only did the company provide the materials for a new concrete pad, they sent along their best concreters to complete the job. 

The service station project was Mitie Construction’s first venture into the Northern Territory. 

Puma Energy plans to build the $1.4 million service station in Emungalan Road, near Crowhurst Engineering.
