Local rivers are starting to rise after some welcome rain in the past day.
But the lateness of the wet season means the rivers remain at low levels, even though more rain is forecast this week.
The Katherine River is muddy looking and starting to rise slowly at Katherine with falls of up to 60mm in the gorge in the past day but remains under a metre.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s forecast is the same for each day of the next seven – possible thunderstorms.
After the heat and high humidity of last week, temperatures will return to 33-34 degrees, rising to 36 degrees later in the week.
