Trading hours for businesses are usually limited over the holiday and can be a trap for those who fail to plan ahead.
Here is what is open over Easter:
Woolworths will be closed on Good Friday, open normal hours on Saturday and Sunday and open from 7am - 8pm on Monday.
Five Star supermarket on Katherine Terrace will be open from 8am - 5pm on Good Friday, 8am - 4pm on Saturday, 8am -1pm on Sunday and closed on Monday.
The BP Katherine, which sells essential items, is open 24/7. And Coles Express is open usual hours from 6am - 10pm across the long weekend.
Easter Services
All community members are welcome to attend Easter services.
Katherine Baptist Church on Cholsh st, Katherine South, is holding a 10am service on Good Friday as well as a 10am service on Easter Sunday.
Katherine Anglican Church, 6 Victoria Highway in Katherine South, is holding a service on Good Friday at 9am and Easter Sunday at 9am.
Katherine Christian Outreach Centre on O'Shea Terrace is holding a Resurrection Sunday at 10am and again at 6pm.
St Joseph's parish, Second Street will be hold services tonight at 7, Good Friday at 3pm, Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 9am.
Heritage Christian Church, located at 116 Casuarina St on East side, is holding one service at 9.30am on Sunday.
School holiday activities for children
As part of the school holiday program, running until Monday 22, families can enjoy an Easter Family Fun Day at the Katherine Country Club.
The event starts at 11am and runs until 2pm.
There will also be an Easter movie playing at the Country Club on Monday 22, starting at 7pm.
Get out and about this long weekend
The long weekend is the perfect opportunity to get out and explore Katherine's stunning surroundings, and after the dismal wet season, many parks and swimming spots have opened early.
The picturesque Mataranka thermal pools and Bitter Springs are open and have been for most of the wet season.
The Southern Rockhole, Butterfly Gorge, and Lillypond walks are all open. As is Edith Falls and the swimming spots at the end of the Sweetwater walk.
The Katherine Hot Springs have officially re-opened.
However, further afield at Kakadu National Park, some popular places are closed due to the wet season.
Currently, the popular Jim Jim Falls and Gunlom Falls are closed, so keep an eye on the website for up-to-date information.
