In the wet season, shoppers are lucky to get a few metres before being drenched.
But that doesn't mean we will be receiving car park shade anytime soon.
At one of the busiest Woolworths in Australia, residents are often left to battle the extreme elements, unprotected.
Following a Larrimah resident's gripe with the state of the car parks - he said he wanted a ramp and trolley bay at the Information Centre car park, as well as shade for his weekly shop- the Katherine Times contacted Woolworths to see about their plans.
"We have no plans to install shade sails at the Katherine store at this time," a Woolworths spokeswoman said.
Following the article, residents took to our social media pages to comment on the lack of shade.
"What about shade over Woolies car park and wider car parks like the rest of NT," one person wrote.
"What about shade over the car park and solar panels on top. Feed back to grid and lower prices to renters in Woolies shopping centre. Just a thought," another said.
While Woolworths has shunned the idea, there is still hope with a multi-million dollar bucket of money waiting to be spent fixing up the CBD.
Katherine Town Council said it welcomed the feedback and has passed on the idea to the architects in charge of the $5 million CBD revitalisation project.
"This is a great idea for the CBD Revitalisation," a KTC spokeswoman said at the time.
"The CBD Revitalisation project is in the consultation phase and suggestions are definitely welcomed."
