No sooner had Mr Jennings announced his resignation yesterday as chief executive officer of Katherine Town Council, the Alice Springs Town Council announced his appointment.
Mr Jennings had been CEO of the Katherine council for four years. He first took the helm at the council in February, 2015.
Mr Jennings will replace Alice Springs' long-serving CEO Rex Mooney.
"After an extensive recruitment process, we are pleased to announce that Robert will be joining the Alice Springs Town Council team," Alice Springs Mayor Damien Ryan said.
"Robert has worked in both private and public sectors, has more than 10 years of experience in local government; including his most recent role as CEO at Katherine Town Council giving him an appreciation for Territory communities," Mayor Ryan said.
"With a strong background in economics, architecture, urban design and development, Robert is looking forward to embracing his new role.
"I'm keen to be working with the council team to continue to deliver a high standard of municipal services whilst also working with the broader Alice Springs community towards driving council projects and initiatives," Mr Jennings said.
Mayor Ryan said "I also take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to retiring CEO Rex Mooney, who has dedicated 16 years of service to the Alice Springs community."
Mr Jennings will take up his new role from late August 2019.
