Serious concerns were held for the whereabouts of the Howard Springs resident, Selwin John McIntyre, after reports from family he had disappeared.
Police said the man spent a quiet evening at home with his family watching the State of Origin before retiring to bed at around 10pm.
Police convened an extensive ground and air search for the man, which included motorbikes, the Territory Response Group and Mounted Police.
NT Emergency Service volunteers were called in to help as well.
"The man was located at the old Iron Bridge in Gunn Point at about 3pm," a NT Police spokeswoman said.
The man was found about 50km from home, but police have not yet stated how he arrived at the location.
He was quickly taken to Royal Darwin Hospital for medical treatment, where he remains.
