Unsurprisingly during the dry season, there was little rainfall in the NT in August with no rain at all in the southern half, including Katherine.
Nowhere in the southern two-thirds of the Territory recorded any rainfall during August.
For the year to date, rainfall across the NT is 44 per cent below the long-term average, the lowest since 1970 and the sixth lowest on record.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a late start to the wet season, so the numbers would become even grimmer.
