Recently, GIVIT's NT Coordinator Tali Dunnage-Burke travelled to Pine Creek to make a special GIVIT delivery of 30 school backpacks for the students to support their new reading initiative, 'Read with Me'.
While the students were quick to engage with the initiative, many said they weren't able to take books home to read as their plastic bags they use as school bags couldn't hold the weight of novels.
The large and colourful bags donated by GIVIT have seen reading rates increase, with many taking books home every day instead of leaving their classroom empty handed.
GIVIT also recently delivered to the school 14 pairs of school shoes donated by Skobi and pairs of socks by Hanes.
The school's 37 students (Prep - Grade 6) come from nearby communities of Kybrook, Pine Creek Town Camp and the town of Pine Creek. 95% of students are indigenous, with English not their primary language.
