A fake gun, a push knife and even an extendable police-like baton were found during a drug raid on a Katherine home this week.
During the search, police allegedly found 56 grams of cannabis in deal bags, glass ice pipes and other indicia of drug supply.
Most concerning to police was the discovery of a AK-47 gel blaster rifle, along with the other weapons.
Detective Sen.-Sgt Lee Morgan said while all the offending is serious, police have particular concern about the gel blaster rifle.
"Gel blasters are often designed to have the appearance of a real firearm," Sen.-Sgt Morgan said.
"They have real potential to cause alarm, particularly when people possess them in a public place.
"If police were confronted with an uncooperative person in possession of a gel blaster in a hostile situation, the consequences could be catastrophic," he said.
Possession of gel blasters which resemble a real firearm in appearance constitutes an offence.
Sen.-Sgt Morgan said the importation and possession of gel blasters in the NT remains an offence.
It might be illegal, but these replica firearms are easily accessible to anyone searching to buy them online, available as "toys" in Australia for as little $150.
Police have charged the 31-year-old occupant with drug offences after the raid on Monday morning.
Police have also alleged fireworks and $1960 in cash was also located during their search.
The man was also in possession of a clip seal bag containing 0.5 grams of methamphetamine, police allege.
A 29-year-old woman drove up to the homer while police were occupied with their search.
She was subjected to a drug saliva test and allegedly returned a positive indication for methamphetamine.
She was taken to the Katherine Watch House and issued with a traffic infringement notice for drive with prohibited drug in body.
The man was charged with:
- Supply Schedule 2 Dangerous Drug - Less Than Commercial Quantity
- Possess Schedule 2 Dangerous Drug - Traffickable Quantity
- Possess Schedule 1 Dangerous Drug
- Possess Tainted Property
- 2x Possess Thing - Administer Dangerous Drug
- 3x Possess Prohibited Weapon
- Possess Fireworks Outside Approved Period
