Ms Nelson tabled in Parliament yesterday printed screenshots of messages and comments made about her.
Many of those comments are in relation to local crime issues or PFAS contamination.
Today we reprint her speech to Parliament in full.
"Last night I said that I was going to put people's names on public record and read out some of the things they had said to me, but I was reminded of parliamentary language. I will table some of the printed screenshots of the messages and comments.
"Some of the names I have been called on social media are pretty disgusting," Ms Nelson said.
"I get that people get angry and say terrible things in the heat of the moment.
"I am called these names because apparently I am personally responsible for any crime that is committed in Katherine.
"I am personally responsible for any business that closes down, or water or aquifers that are contaminated. If a fire occurs, apparently I am personally responsible for that.
"Take your pick of any issue that p...... people off and I am personally responsible for it according to some of these folk in Katherine.
"Some people who have used those terms and said some terrible things and have a penchant for being extremely rude and disrespectful about me on a personal level have the audacity to show indignation that I do not speak to them, meet with them or use or shop in their business.
"Any person who has a modicum of self-respect would not engage with someone who shows them no respect or, at a minimum, no courtesy.
"Ironically and hypocritically, those same people who say all of these terrible things also support initiatives like Dolly's Dream, Are You Okay?, Mental Mate and they share message condemning bullying and encouraging other people to stop bullying.
"They put messages on their social media posts saying things like, 'Look at the example you are setting your children'.
"I will read one comment by a person who puts things all the time about Dolly's Dream and 'We have to be nice and kind to each other.' This is the message that person sent to me:
"Get back in your hole. Get someone to pour concrete on top of your head because you are part of the problem.
"That is what this person has sent to me. That is what that person has also published publicly on social media. Yet, the hypocrisy knows no bounds.
"People can disagree with me on a great many things. I have no issues with any of that.
"But like hell I will tolerate being called names and disrespected. You can dislike or disagree with my politics, decisions my government makes, but here is what you cannot do-you cannot call me names, insult me and disparage me and then act indignant when I call you out for it. That is what you cannot do.
"Freedom of speech does not mean that you are free of consequences.
"I find it incredibly ironic that these bullies will post these sorts of thing on social media, say things to you face-to-face, in real life, but the instant the person who is being bullied and harassed calls them out, slaps them back or pushes back, oh, my goodness, the indignation that comes from these guys, the names you are called then. It is a continuing thing.
"Do you know what? On that note, Mr Deputy Speaker, that is a continuing cycle, I will end this thread. I will not talk about this anymore because, quite frankly, they do not matter. Who matters is me, my son, my mother, my friends, my colleagues and the people who support me. That is who matters. Who matters are the people in Katherine who I represent, work for and put in 14 hours every day, week in, week out. Those are the people who matter.
"When I got home last night, my son and mother were waiting up for me. I have to say I still have a hard time believing I have a 19-year-old son. Anyway, we did what we always do at the end of the day-we chatted about our day. My son said to me, 'I heard your adjournment, mom. You sounded angry and that is not like you. Do not let them win, they do not matter. You matter.'
"Tonight, about 40 minutes ago, I received a phone call from a constituent, a long-term Katherine resident, who called me to say, 'Do not let them win. All those people saying those things are hypocrites and mean nothing. You matter. The people in your life who support you matter and do not forget there are people in Katherine who rely on you'. That is exactly what she said.
"Over the last couple of days I have received messages and texts with similar sentiment because people have started seeing these things on social media. They have read these comments.
"The Katherine Times posted an online article today and the headline was 'Member for Katherine threatens to publicly name and shame people who criticised the government'. No, that is not what I said. Let me correct them on what they have published.
"What I said was that I was going to call people out that have said horrible things about me. I do not care that people criticise the government or criticise decisions government has made or that I have made as a member of the government. I do not care.
"What I care about is being called horrible names. What I care about is that my family sees that stuff being posted on social media, that my son hears people saying those things about me as we are walking around Katherine. That is what I care about. That is what I am going to be calling out and what I have called out.
"That is what you cannot get away of. I am sick and tired of it. I am angry about it. It has been three years of sustained personal attacks. Grow up, people. Take a good hard look at yourselves. Stop being the hypocrites you are and think about what you are putting out there and how you are treating other people. Thank you.
"I seek leave of the Assembly to table the hard copies of the comments I mentioned in my adjournment."
