The Nightcliff man was lost for words after the Wednesday Lotto discovery.
The Darwin local held the only division one winning entry across Australia.
The winner said he'd been playing for decades and would use his life-changing prize to enjoy his retirement.
Confirming his million-dollar win with a Tatts official this morning, the man explained he'd just checked his ticket at his local newsagency.
"Thank you!" he laughed eventually.
"Wow. I can't believe it.
"What a great morning to discover I'm a millionaire!
"I've been playing for decades. It's great news.
"I can't believe it."
When asked how he planned to enjoy his prize, the winner said he'd need to let the news sink in.
"I have no idea," he laughed.
"I'm going to have to really think about it.
"I'll certainly be able to enjoy my retirement."
The happy winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning entry in Nightcliff.
