New data revealed this week by global wellness brand, Lovehoney, shows Cupid's arrow missed the mark in the Northern Territory, with zero towns making the top 20.
Surrounded by vineyards and orchards, the small town of Berri in South Australia has beaten many of the nation's more obvious cities and towns as the most romantic place in Australia, as sales of flowers and chocolates increase by 300 per cent each year around February 14.
Mareeba in far north Queensland, Bentley in WA, Brisbane, Grafton, NSW, and Queensland's Townsville all made the top five, while Sunbury in Victoria came in right at the bottom.
Katherine florist, Lana Read is in the midst of preparing for the single busiest day of the year, but says February 14 is where the romance ends.
For Valentine's Day, Mrs Read orders an additional 676 roses - a significant jump from the two dozen typically sold each week.
"Katherine becomes very romantic on Valentines Day, we sell out of flowers and chocolates, it is my busiest time of the year by far.
"The rest of the year on the other hand, Katherine's romance drops quite a bit, which is a shame because we have beautiful spots surrounding us.
"You only have to go camping and bring a bottle of champagne or watch the sunset at the top of the gorge."
There are very romantic places to go, but Katherine isn't a romantic hub all year long.
- Lana Read
Mrs Read said on days outside of Valentine's Day, the majority of people buying flowers are either buying them for a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary, or are attempting to right a wrong.
"We get a lot of partners coming in for 'I'm sorry' flowers," she said.
"It is quite astounding what comes out of their hearts for a card when they open up and spill."
