A tender has been released for an upgraded police dog compound in Katherine.
Contractors have been asked to bid for an upgraded outside exercise compound connecting to the existing dog kennels at the rear of Katherine Police Station on the Stuart Highway.
The works would include refurbishment of the existing kennels, with associated works and the construction of a three vehicle carport for the use of the Dog Operations Unit.
Sniffer dogs are successfully used in Katherine to bust drug couriers.
A total of $250,000 was set aside in the last NT Government Budget for the "dog operation unit" upgrade.
The work is to include dog exercise yards, synthetic grass, a hot water service and a commercial ice making machine.
