Former 21-year serving member of the Australian Air Force Richard Cook will be out the front of his house for the occasion, and says the sense of recognition ANZAC Day represents remains important for fellow veterans.
"Everybody understands, people are faring okay but they understand the risks and I think the driveway idea is a great replacement," Mr Cook said.
"To serve is a big sacrifice, you're away from your family for a long time and when you come back it's like everybody has moved on from you and you're sort of in the same position - it's a strange experience.
"The recognition is important, just look at the damage done to those fellas who came back from Vietnam and didn't really have that community support," he said.

Katherine RSL President Scott Lander says you can access the last post over the Queensland RSL app on your phone.
"It's important we still pay respect to those who sacrificed for this country, who served and are still serving," he said.
"Veterans are among the most vulnerable people at this time, not just because of their age but because most have some ailments from the end of their careers.
"You can access the ode through the Queensland RSL App or on ABC Radio, so come out into your driveway and it should be a great sight," Mr Lander said.
Alongside the front-yard efforts is an effort to raise money for veterans in crisis.through camping in the backyard for a night in exchange for donations.
Operation Perseverance is an initiative started by Wounded Heroes in Queensland and partnered with Veterans Australia Northern Territory.
As to the driveway salute, Mr Cook is confident that it will be a strong showing from Katherine.
"We've always felt the support here, it's a military town," he said.
"It's usually a good day, people are already getting behind the driveway salute on Facebook so I think there'll be quite a few," Mr Cook said.
You can donate or raise money through the Operation Perseverance Facebook page.
