The Katherine cinema's new operator wants to bring the audiences back.
Star Cinema manager Greg Harmer said he was greatly encouraged by the overwhelming support for the cinema's re-opening a month ago but it hadn't yet translated to bums on seats.
Staff who were recruited to help out during the recent school holidays have been stood down at the moment.
Attendance during the week is so poor, he is considering shutting the doors on Mondays,Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
But Mr Harmer plans to keep trying new things to get Katherine audiences interested.
Such as a games competition night.
He does admit the coronavirus pandemic's impact on Hollywood has had an impact, as it has with cinemas around the globe.
"It's obvious that one of our big problems is that there is no new block buster movies available to screen."
He said theme nights and the continued support of the Katherine Film Society had brought people in.
Mr Harmer said he did not want Katherine to think he was complaining, but said he was puzzled about where the support had gone.
He said he was always open to suggestions from residents.
