Since its original foundation event in 2013 when it was launched by the Victorian Brumby Association, there has never been a Territory representative in the event.
Brumbies are sent from Victoria to selected trainers all over Australia.
Brumby 'Fiora' arrived at Warhorse Horsemanship early Sunday from Darwin Horse Floats.
Fiora is a stunning flaxen chestnut mare who was caught from Kosciuszko National Park in NSW in 2018.
She has been able to grow strong and healthy at the VBA Brumby Junction sanctuary prior to coming in for the McDowell's Australian Brumby Challenge, which JJ and Brumby Fiora will be showcased in Melbourne from July 8-11 next year.
Although J.J. handles and works with many Territory Brumbies the Brumby must be one chosen by the Victorian Brumby Association.
This is a National Community effort to save the Heritage Brumbies of NSW and Victoria from the meat works.
J.J. has developed her own Liberty based horsemanship methods.
"Often people will discard of amazing horses that have simply put up 'walls' to protect themselves," she said.
"When all they need is a partner who is willing to listen to them and get to the base of the issue."
J.J. also offers horse riding lessons currently in the Katherine and Darwin areas and will be expanding into another location fairly soon.
J.J. has been supported in her quest to take part in the national brumby challenge by the Katherine ICPA, Nutrien Katherine, Valley Photography NT, the Victorian Brumby Association, Peter Trembath from Katherine Vet Care, Territory Tuff, Tamara, McDowell's Herbal and her family.
She will be posting regular updates on the Australian Brumby Challenge web page https://australianbrumbychallenge.com.au/ as well as her social Media pages once Fiora has settled in.
JJ will be running a Go-Fund me page which will be advertised on JJ's social Media platforms to help with 'Fioras' arrival trip and a local Katherine business has offered to host a significant fundraiser which will be used to help fund their trip.
