At a time when many service clubs are struggling for members across Australia, Katherine's Rotary Club has welcomed its fifth new recruit in four months.
Last week Rotary inducted its ninth member Andrew Highet.
Mr Highet brings a wealth of talent to the club after spending 47 years with Telstra, travelling to every community and town in the Top End.
He has seen a huge change on telephone usage and in the process has picked up a wealth of knowledge about information technology and digital communication.
When he started the telephone exchange was manual and located behind the old post office.
Mr Highet, together with his wife Cathy, has been the team which kept the RAAF Tindal cadets going for many years and he has put in a great deal of effort in ensuring this valuable opportunity for young people continues.
Andrew is also one of the founder mentors for the Rotary Computer Club and his knowledge of PCs has enabled the club's first classes to run smoothly and our club members have gained many valuable skills.
