The official weather station at Tindal only recorded 1.4mm but Katherine totals even reached 20mm in some spots.
There is still the chance of storms from today but the Bureau of Meteorology, and most other weather websites are indicating a big chance for a good fall from early next week.
The bureau also says the extreme heat will be replaced by top temperatures of 35-36 early next week.
Even a top temperature of 33 is forecast for Tuesday when most of the rain is expected.
