Katherine Town Council confirmed the in-person, large scale commemorations will go ahead on April 25 this year, after the COVID-19 pandemic forced cancellations around Australia in 2020.

Katherine RSL Sub-Branch, RAAF Base Tindal and Katherine Town Council will host a Dawn Service and Community March on Sunday morning.

KTC also announced the Governor-General David Hurley and his wife Linda Hurley will attend the Community March in Katherine.

Katherine RSL Sub Branch president Scott Lander said he was grateful for a chance to reflect on the sacrifices made by military personnel at conventional Anzac Day events, after unusual commemorations in 2020.

"I definitely feel we should commemorate these days and learn from the lessons of the past," he said.

Mr Lander said he appreciates the journey the Governor-General will make to visit Katherine, and reflect on Australian and New Zealand service personnel with the local community.

"It's very nice to see him show interest in the smaller towns around Australia, especially in the NT."

Anzac Day 2021 will be the first day of reflection for Katherine RSL in their new home, after they relocated to the Katherine Country Club in August last year.

Mr Lander said there are about 40 veterans living in Katherine who have joined the local RSL, and called for any veterans who have not put their hand up to join the organisation.

"We'd certainly like to see them join us at our new home," he said.
