Katherine's Kate Everett has raised more than $20,000 for taking part in the Australian Outback Marathon over the weekend weekend, with the funds going towards a new Dolly's Dream helpline.
Ms Everett took on the famous marathon through the Central Australian bush on Saturday, clocking an impressive time of five hours and 44 minutes.
As of Monday morning, she had raised $21,154 for Dolly's Dream.
She said the money raised will go towards the charity's new initiative, the Dolly's Dream Support Line, with the amount raised providing ariund 250 hours of free mental health care.
"When we started Dolly's Dream, our initial focus was around prevention measures and information about cyber safety, but always in the back of our mind we wanted to create some sort of support network," Ms Everett said.
"It's not always easy or affordable to have access to mental health care and support that gives people the coping mechanisms they need."
Ms Everett said the helpline would be particularly important for remote and regional people.
"The data is showing there are calls from rural and regional areas," she said.
"We definitely want families just to have the ability to remain anonymous."
The marathon was a huge but rewarding challenge for Ms Everett, who was still battling a recent foot injury.
"It was absolutely amazing. It was a really tough course, 42km is a long way," she said.
"Nothing prepares you unless you're actually training in Alice - nothing prepares you for that.
"A lot of it was just bush tracks and sand dunes."
She said the challenge was worth it for the cause.
"I had my $20,000 (fundraising) goal and we smashed that," Ms Everett said.
"It's just been a bit of an emotional roller coaster."
The Dolly's Dream Support Line number is: 0488 881 033.
