The 43-year-old was arrested at his home in Darwin last week following a joint investigation between Australian Border Force and the Northern Territory Joint Organised Crime Task Force (NT JOCTF).
He faced the Darwin Local Court on October 1 and was remanded in custody to re-appear in court today.
Australian Border Force officers intercepted the package and removed the substance before telling the intended recipient it was ready for collection.
More news:
Police will allege the 43-year-old tried to pick up the package from a freight depot.
His home was then searched, with police seizing mobile phones, a laptop and cannabis.
He stands charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug and posessing cannabis.
AFP Superintendent Matthew Ballard said the use of these illicit substances are extremely dangerous and can lead to a loss of consciousness, memory loss, respiratory difficulties, and even death.
"The AFP continues to work closely with its partners to prevent these drugs from getting onto our streets and potentially being used in the carriage of other serious offences, such as assaults."
