Pool under new management
Katherine Town Council is set to enter into a new three-year management agreement with Belgravia Leisure for the management of the Katherine Aquatic Centre.

Kalkaringi's milestone
More than 200 people attended the opening of the Kalkaringi Community and Family Centre on Tuesday to celebrate the next stage of self-determination for Gurindji people. The centre is just one highlight from the first two years of the Gurindji Aboriginal Corporation Local Decision Making Implementation Plan.

Booster COVID-19 shots
Fully vaccinated Territorians aged 18 and over can start booking their COVID-19 booster shot appointments. Territorians who received their vaccination six months ago will be able to receive their booster dose from as early as November 8. Pfizer booster doses will be available to all fully vaccinated Territorians aged 18 and over regardless of the brand of previous vaccine they received. It is part of the the Territory Government's COVID-19 vax plan ahead of all people-facing roles need to be double vaxxed by Christmas.

Drought funding options
Rural communities in the Katherine region can get help to be more prepared for the impacts of drought through resilience funding. Applications for the national Future Drought Fund's Networks to Build Drought Resilience program funding need to be in by November 15. The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) is encouraging community groups and not-for-profits in agriculture-dependent Katherine communities to get their applications in for the next round of grants and share in a total of $2.9 million in funds.
Bridge to help learning
Upgrades to a 11.7 kilometre section of Port Keats Road including the construction of a new bridge over Saddle Rail Creek are now complete and open to the public. The bridge will bring greater opportunities to Indigenous students in the Katherine region and in the remote town of Nauiyu, according to 2021 NT Senior Australian of the Year Dr Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr-Baumann AM. Dr Ungunmerr-Baumann told the Katherine Times earlier this year that during the wet season, people from some communities could not cross the river.
