"I hope to see more houses this year being decorated and participating in this competition to celebrate this festive season," Cr Clark said.
The winners will be announced on December 11, at a Carols by Candlelight event at the Katherine Museum, where a $1000 prize pool will be divided between the winners of first prize - $500; second prize - $300 , and third prize - $200.
"The councillors and I are very excited to support this year's Christmas Lights Competition," Cr Clark said.
"Our town is always beautifully decorated with Christmas lights and ornaments every year.
"That is why this competition is held, to encourage community members and give them an opportunity to keep decorating and win a prize."
Entries are open to all residents within the Katherine Municipality area and only one entry will be accepted per house.
Entries will be judged on presentation, general appearance, layout, and design; and the use of light colour, form, composition, variety, and repetition .
"We are looking for creativity, innovation, and passion," said Cr Clark.
"And most importantly, does it reflect the spirit of the Christmas season?"
Entries close December 5 with the judging taking place between December 7 and 9.
