Nitmiluk Tours - proudly presents this week’s Community Hero.
THERE is something special about all health workers and carers and the role they play in their communities, and the grace and compassion Jessica Eddy brings to her work means it is not surprising that those who know her have nominated her as a Katherine community hero.
The 25-year old works with people with disabilities as a support worker with Step Out, and she has been described by those who know her as a “breath of fresh air.”
Having moved to Katherine from Melbourne about three years ago, where she worked as a trained beauty therapist, the young woman’s lovely nature was soon noticed, and she became involved in disability care.
Having since undertaken a Certificate III in disability care, the joy Jessica takes in helping others has not gone unappreciated.
“She’s just one of those girls that’s always really positive in giving others encouragement and words of advice, and making people feel good about themselves,” friend, and some-time gym companion Chris Manuel said.
“I sometimes see her at the gym at 6am, so I know she’s very
determined, and she’s decided to get the best out of life.
“She’s into fitness, and I believe she’s also helped sick animals, and recently saved some birds which were being attacked by youths,” Mr Manuel said.
“She’s just an amazingly happy, helpful and considerate person.”
Jessica’s friend Leanne Stubbs said she couldn’t agree more.
“She’s just outstanding – always happy, and has a great outlook on life.
“Her positive view-point is great, she’s just an all-round great
person.”
While such resounding praise is undoubtedly the last thing someone of Jessica’s modest nature would seek, it’s clearly important for many within the community that their unsung heroes be celebrated.
Every week the Community Hero celebrated in the Katherine Times receives at $50 Nitmiluk Gorge meal voucher.
