Darwin Airport has today exceeded its average wet season amount after a series of monsoonal troughs kept the top of the Top End sodden.

Interestingly, while some of the low depressions in those troughs were centred just south of Katherine, the falls here have been much lower.

After the last huge wet season, Katherine is still tracking a little below average.

The wet season total so far of 747.2mm from the Tindal weather station, is below the expected average of 857.3mm with the rest of February still to go.

Our normal wet season average is 1064.3mm.

Katherine’s wet season account was bolstered by above average rain totals in January and November.

The November total of 155.8mm was well above the average of 93.3mm.

The town failed to register any rain all during the last dry season.

Darwin’s wet season average is 1684.4mm.

The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting rain for Katherine over the weekend to bolster our February account.
