This year's campaign, #EachForEqual, draws attention to the difference individuals can make.
Across the globe, thousands of people will be hosting events and rallies to raise awareness against gender bias, and call for accelerated equality.
While there is no march in Katherine this year, a number of small celebrations will be taking place from tomorrow to celebrate the achievements of women, hear from influential speakers and highlight the important role everyone plays in forging a more gender-balanced world.
What's on?
Women's Day BBQ at the Katherine Doorways Hub
The Katherine Doorways Hub, a drop in centre for people at risk or experiencing homelessness, will be hosting a BBQ at the centre on Friday at 11am.
Along with food, the hub will be handing out Dignity bags filled with pads and tampons, personal hygiene products and everyday products.
Katherine Women's Information and Legal Service BBQ
The Katherine Women's Information and Legal Service will be raising the profile of the Katherine Region Stolen Generations Aboriginal Corporation as well as highlighting the need for equality within the community.
KWILS' work centres on progress towards equality by providing women access to legal services in areas of law which have significant gendered impact such as domestic violence and child protection.
The legal service will be hosting a BBQ Lunch on Sunday at the Katherine Museum's Stolen Generation Garden from 11.30am to 12.30pm.
Hearing from guest speakers Constantina Bush and Bobbi Kruger, a stolen generation survivor, the event is aimed at galvanising collective action for gender parity.
"The International Women's Day 2020 theme is #EachforEqual, this is an ideal very close to the heart of KWILS' work," KWILS CEO Brooke Brenner said.
"KWILS together with Katherine Region Stolen Generations Aboriginal Corporation aims to bring everyone together to consider how we can strive for equality in our community and develop a sense of togetherness at our BBQ lunch."
Talents of Many Colours
Katherine's Connected Women's group is highlighting diversity and multiculturalism with a fashion show and a cultural food exhibition on Sunday.
The event is aimed at shining a light on the success stories of migrant women who have overcome language barriers, survived domestic violence, isolation and financial hardship.
"The show aims to celebrate the tireless efforts of migrant, refugee, asylum seeker and aboriginal women who are showcasing their multifaceted skills when it comes to fashion and event organising," migration support leader Sabeeha Nihad said.
We invite you to enjoy the afternoon with these lovely women who have their own story of struggle, displacement and survival.
In addition to a fashion show and an array of cultural cuisines to try, the event is striving for social harmony and cross cultural awareness, Ms Nihad said.
The Talents of Many Colours show is happening on Sunday, March 8 at 12.30 at the Mabuhay Hall, 29 Giles Street.
