The COVID-19 outbreak in Northern Territory saw Darwin go into lockdown last Sunday before being joined by Alice Springs on Tuesday.
It has left Katherine as one of the major Territory hubs outside that zone and with the addition of tourists kept out of Darwin and Alice Springs on top of an already-busy season, it has meant resources are stretched.
Caravan parks and other accommodation services are full, while the increase in patronage has added demand for items at the supermarket.
Member for Katherine Jo Hersey said the situation had "put a lot of pressure on shops", and Woolworths said in a statement on Thursday staff were working hard to assist customers during a difficult time.
