Two tourists are lucky to be alive after they happened to crash their car in front of a carload of medical professionals on the Stuart Highway.

Northern Watch Commander Josh Cunningham told ABC Radio the women, aged 23 and 24, were driving south on the highway around 12.30pm on Monday near Emerald Springs when their front tyre blew.
"The front left hand tyre has blown out of the vehicle resulting in them losing control of the vehicle and rolling down the embankment a couple of times," he said.
Cmdr Cunningham said their lives were saved by the people who happened to be driving behind them.
"The vehicle right behind containing three doctors and a nurse thankfully helped extricate them out of the vehicle quite quickly as the vehicle caught on fire," he said.
"The occupants did suffer serious injuries and had to be Careflighted to Darwin, but thankfully they still have their lives thanks to the good samaritans."
According to NT Health, the 24-year-old is in hospital in a stable condition and the 23-year-old has been discharged.
