The extreme weather warnings in place for Katherine have been cancelled as storms bring decent falls and relief from the heat.
Bureau of Meteorology Forecaster Sally Cutter said the storm made its way over Katherine around 9am and is heading north to Darwin.
"So it started off yesterday afternoon down in the Barkly and moved north overnight and is currently making its way through the Top End," she said.
"It got to Tindall just just before nine so you ended up with about 11 millimeters...Katherine Bridge had 12."
"Snowdrop Creek (northeast of Katherine) had 28 millimeters so there's been some good falls within in."
Ms Cutter said winds were not as extreme as initially expected as the storm passed through Katherine.
"When it did go through Centre Island we had 113km gusts with it," she said.
"So, there has been some gusty winds with with it, just as it went through Tindall we didn't get anything nearly that bad."
She said the storm would provide some much needed relief from the steaming temperatures Katherine has experienced over the past few days.
"Katherine's definitely cooled down. T
"It might warm up if that cloud clears off, but it's certainly not going to be one of those really hot days which they have been having."
