Emergency services are investigating after a fire destroyed a house in Katherine on Sunday.

According to NT Police, reports were received of a house fire on Jukes Crescent around 3pm.
NT Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire, which had engulfed the entire property.
The house was unoccupied at the time.
Investigations are continuing into the cause of the fire.

Superintendent Peter Malley said it was incredibly lucky that no one was inside the house at the time.
"Investigations into this incident are ongoing," he said.
"NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind the public to ensure smoke detectors are properly maintained and in working order.
"Any flammable material should be stored in approved containers and preparations taken to reduce fire hazards around the home."
