Ranger Clare Pearce taught a group of children about animal and insect tracks, their poo and how to eat a green ant’s bottom without getting stung. 

“This is a new thing we have started up in Katherine and Alice Springs,” Ranger Clare said.

“It is about getting kids outside and back into nature.”

Val Butler from Tenterfield, NSW, has travelled to Katherine to visit her two grandsons. 

“My daughter really wanted the boys to come, they do a lot of bushwalking,” Ms Butler said. 

Katherine resident Kylie Lake said it was a great way to get the kids out of the house. 

“They are used to the bush, Ranger Clare is awesome and is so great with the kids so we brought them out,” Ms Lake said.

“They have been looking forward to it for days.” 

There will be three more Wild Time activities with Ranger Clare these school holidays. 

Tuesday, July 4, will be a day of exploring the Cutta Cutta Caves from 11am-1pm. 

Tuesday, July 11, will see children discovering the treasures of Nitmiluk from 10-11:30am.

Tuesday, July 18, will be a night time adventure at Leliyn Falls from 7-8pm.

“I am really excited about the caves next week and spotlight a few weeks after that, it is going to be really fun,” Ms Lake said.
